Keep Your Tankless Water Heater in Top Shape

You bought a tankless water heater for “endless hot water,” but if it’s flashing an error code or delivering lukewarm showers, that promise feels empty.

In Las Vegas, the culprit is almost always Hard Water

Here is the truth most installers didn’t tell you: In Las Vegas, a tankless water heater is not maintenance-free.

Our water hardness (>180 mg/L) causes calcium scale to build up rapidly on the heat exchanger.

This scale acts like insulation, forcing the burner to work harder until the computer shuts the unit down to prevent melting.

Water Heaters Today LLC provides the Professional Tankless Water Heater Repair & Descaling (Flushing) services required to keep your warranty valid.

The types of tankless water heaters we repair are:

  • Commercial Tankless Water Heater Repair
  • Riannai Tankless Water Heater Repair
  • Rheem Tankless Water Heater Repair
  • Navien Tankless Water Heater Repair

We circulate food-grade vinegar or descaling solution through your unit for 45+ minutes, scrubbing the internals clean without damaging the metal.

Signs Your Tankless Unit Needs Repair

Tankless units are smart.

When they are sick, they usually tell you.

Whether it’s a digital code or a physical symptom, these signs mean you need a water heater repair technician immediately.

Signs could easily be:

  • Error Codes (11, 12, 90, 99): Most brands use similar codes. “11” is usually Ignition Failure (gas/air issue), and “12” is Flame Loss (often caused by scale or dirty sensors).
  • “Cold Water Sandwich”: You get hot water, then a blast of cold, then hot again. Your flow sensor or internal recirculation pump is failing.
  • Reduced Water Pressure: If the hot water trickle is weak but the cold is strong, your Inlet Water Filter is plugged with sediment.
  • Noisy Operation: A loud vibrating or “fog horn” sound often indicates a dirty check valve or a combustion fan struggling against a blockage.
  • Water Leaking from Case: If water is dripping from the metal box itself, the heat exchanger has likely corroded through. This is an emergency.

How We Repair & Maintain Your Tankless Unit

We don’t guess; we follow the manufacturer’s diagnostic tree.

  • Diagnostic Scan: We read the error history to see if the unit has been overheating or short-cycling.
  • The “Vegas Flush” (Descaling): We hook up a circulation pump to your service valves and flush the system to dissolve mineral buildup. Note: If you don’t have service valves (isolation kit), we can install them.
  • Filter & Sensor Cleaning: We remove and clean the Inlet Water Screen (which catches city debris) and the Flame Rods (which get coated in carbon).
  • Gas Pressure Check: Tankless units need high gas flow. We use a digital manometer to ensure your unit isn’t “starving” for fuel.

Our Commitment to Quality Tankless Services

At Water Heaters Today, we service all brands, regardless of who installed them.

Our team understands that a Rinnai behaves differently than a Navien.

We carry the specific igniters, flow sensors, and flush kits needed for each manufacturer.

We will also be honest with you: If your heat exchanger is leaking internally due to years of neglected maintenance, we won’t charge you for a “repair” that won’t work.

We will recommend replacement. But if we can save it with a flush and a sensor cleaning, we will.

Have Any Questions?

You must flush your unit once a year. Our water is rated “Very Hard.” If you skip this maintenance, the scale buildup will void your manufacturer’s warranty and eventually cause the heat exchanger to crack.

This is called the “Cold Water Sandwich.” It happens when the burner turns off because the flow rate dropped too low, or there is a lag in ignition. It can also be caused by a failing flow sensor or a crossover in your plumbing. We can diagnose the specific cause.

Yes, but we will likely need to install them. Service valves (Isolation Kit) are required for maintenance. If your original installer skipped them to save money, we can retrofit them so your unit can be properly serviced going forward.

Yes, but be aware that electric tankless units in Las Vegas often struggle with our groundwater temperature in winter. If your electric unit isn’t keeping up, it might be undersized, not broken. We can perform a load calculation to tell you for sure.

We are Tankless Specialists. While general handymen might be scared of the complex electronics inside a tankless unit, we speak the language. We understand Error Code 12 on a Rheem, Error 003 on a Navien, and Code 10 on a Rinnai. We carry the descaling pumps on our trucks so we can restore your hot water flow in a single visit, saving you from the dreaded cold shower.
